Trish + Rory | April 2023

The ceremony was absolutely everything we had hoped for and so. much. more. People didn’t stop telling us how beautiful it all was, how perfectly you encapsulated us and how much joy it brought them.”
— Trish, bride

I had butterflies about this wedding from the moment I met the bride and groom, Trish and Rory, and heard the words “it’s going to be kilts and saris”. And let me tell you (although the photos will do more justice): the day did not disappoint.

The night before I married them at Shortflatt Tower, the couple had their traditional Haldi and Mehndi celebrations

With a bagpiper, jayamala (floral Hindu marriage garlands), Indian canapés, a Celtic reading and a reading in Bengali, the groom and his groomsmen in kilts and the bride and her bridesmaids in saris, the entire wedding was a feast for the ears and eyes and taste buds.

It didn’t even matter that the day started drizzly; nothing could dampen the excitement of the wedding party and rain won’t be a part that any of us recall when we picture the day. Instead I picture the jewel-tone bouquets, the gold thread of Trish’s sari, the rainbow confetti, and the brightly-dressed guests.

It was a true, effervescent celebration of love - a love made stronger by similarities and differences. The couple even had their weddings rings made from the same molten bead of river gold, sourced from two places special to them, making the rings chemically inseparable. How poetically glorious.

As well as exchanging rings, the bride and groom exchanged wedding garlands

Trish and Rory were easy for me to get to know in the lead up to their nuptials - they were endearingly candid as we laughed and cried and drank Sunday afternoon wines together, even sharing details of their lives with me that they shared only with their closest friends. It felt like I was let into a sacred space, and so I found their ceremony script poured out of me. I “got” who they were - separately and as a couple - and sharing their story at the front on their wedding day was met with an inordinate amount of affection and delight from their gathered friends and family. It was clear everyone present “got” them too. We were all in a fan club - the Trish and Rory Are Such Bloody Lovely People and So Perfect Together Aren’t They?? Fan Club.
